Amazon’s tax deal with Luxembourg was struck in 2003
The European Commission has disclosed a preliminary finding that Amazon’s tax arrangements in Luxembourg probably constitute “state aid”.
The EC began looking into the tax position last year, saying that it had suspicions it broke EU rules.
The EC said on Friday that its “preliminary view is that the tax ruling… by Luxembourg in favour of Amazon constitutes state aid.”
The online retailer was not immediately available for comment.
However, Amazon said last year that it had “received no special tax treatment from Luxembourg”.
The EC said in its document that it had doubts that Luxembourg had properly looked into the deal.
